Dietary fiber also known as roughage or bulk is a requirement for healthy bowel movements among other health benefits. In the U.S, it is estimated that the average intake of fiber is less than 50% of the recommend dietary fiber intake. While most are concerned with effects of a low fiber diet, little attention is paid to effects of consuming high fiber foods in excess.
