The enlightenment idea influenced the political thinking of the colonies and led to their revolt action. The enlightenment brought the idea of natural right and social contracts. The colonies felt that the British had destroyed their natural rights and violated their portion of the social contract. They therefore decided that the British has no right to rule over them  and they decided to revolt.
