So in this case
7-1=6
2-0=2

slope is [tex]\frac { y_{2} - y_{1}}{ x_{2} - x_{1}} [/tex]
if we plug in your coordinates we get:
[tex]\frac { y_{2} - y_{1}}{ x_{2} - x_{1}} \\ \frac {7-1}{2-0} \\ \frac {6}{2} \\ 3[/tex]
Therefore, the slope of (0,1) and (2,7) is 3.
