Why do you think Mao gave young people so much power during the Cultural Revolution?

Mao grew up in a time where he was at the forefront of a Communist revolution. He saw the sights of war and heard it's sounds. Mao wanted the younger generation to experience what he experienced. He didn't want them to miss out on the feelings of revolution. This is why he urged teens and young people to join the Red Guards.
