What the Reader Sees and Hears from the narrator indicates that the door has been closed to the other characters. Unlike the narrator and the reader, the characters outside the room can't see Louise staring out her open window, enjoying the "delicious air," spreading her arms out to "welcome" the years to come and saying "Free! Body and soul free!" The narrator shows more to the reader then most characters know
