Start with

[tex]\dfrac{x}{2}+\dfrac{3}{2}<\dfrac{5}{2}[/tex]

Multiply the whole equation by 2. Since 2 is positive, we don't need to switch the inequality sign:

[tex]x+3<5[/tex]

Subtract 3 from both sides:

[tex]x<2[/tex]
