a washer and a dryer cosr $873 combined. thenwasher cost$ $77 less than the dryer . what is the cost of the dryer.

Let the dryer cost x.

Then, the washer costs (x-77)

Together, they cost  (x) + (x-77) = 873

        2x-77 = 873      [subtract 77 from both sides]

           2x =    796      

            x = 398

So the dryer costs $398
