The term vernacular, also called by some linguistics vernacular language or nonstandard dialect, originated from the Classical Latin vernaculus, which means belonging to home-born slaves.  

It refers to a language which is used by common or ordinary people in their everyday life, being this nonstandard dialect usually appealed by native speakers in a spoken manner rather than in a written way.
